Venue info

This handsome Victorian brick pile was the subject of major makeover in summer 2015, when its outside space was landscaped and radically transformed. The tavern’s new mishmash postmodern decor references railway journeys to destinations even more exotic than leafy Lee Green. Should past residents of the parish, Jude Law, Eric Clapton and Manfred Mann, revisit the old girl, they’ll find owners Young’s brews on tap alongside Euro megabrand beers, classic cocktails and an accessibly priced list of easy-drinking global wines. Inexpensive modern pub grub is prepared in an open kitchen then served in an airy conservatory-style dining room. Pea and mint soup (£4.50); monkfish cheeks, fennel and lovage salad; or carpaccio of British beef could precede mains of quinoa, kale, squash, avocado and seeds salad; fish and chips; or buttermilk fried chicken with kohlrabi slaw and fries (£12), followed by treacle tart or blackberry pannacotta with lime jelly.
